Revisiting Flame-Scarred Junkboxes for fun and Profit!

Okay… so we’re not talking a HUGE profit from these things, but if you get one of the Epic drops, it can really be a perk!

Here’s what I’m talkin’ about:

Flame-Scarred Junkbox can be pick-pocketed from Cata mobs. (those with pockets, at least.)  They typically contain such interesting items as: GOLD!!, Rogue’s Draught,
rare cata gems, or one of the five high-level inscription mats (horn, eye, skin, etc…) The box will also often contain poisons, which is nice for keeping up your on-hand supply without having to hit a vendor.

In addition to these common items, there is a chance of receiving one of these Epic weapons:

The Twilight Blade Dagger
Spinerender Thrown
Krol Decapitator One-Hand Sword

Mobs also drop a good bit of gold, greens, and grays that can vendor for a bit. Be prepared to end up a with a few stacks of Goblin Gentleman’s Magazine. I didn’t realize just how perverse most goblins are!  😉

Two of the best places for farming up junkboxes are in Deepholm and Tiwlight Highlands.

By far, the best place to farm these up in Deepholm is the Fractured Front, located on the western side of the zone. Here there are a large number of Troggs fighting against NPCs. You simply wander in stealth around the groups and pickpocket to your little heart’s content. You do have to be careful of the Geomages who cast Earth Spike, as it will break your stealth if you are close to them. Just restealth and go back to picking.

Twilight Highlands

There is one particular area in Twilight Highlands that is ideal for farming these. Unfortunately, this location got slightly nerfed in patch 4.1.  You also need to have not completed all of the quest-lines in the zone.  One of the early quests you receive is called “Off The Wall” and requires that you shoot Aliance NPC’s on the walls of Highbank in the southeastern part of the zone.  Normally, there are only a handful of NPCs in Highbank, but when this quest is active the number increases tenfold. Prior to the latest patch, none of the NPCs would agro you if you stood next to them un-stealthed. Following the patch, the Highbank Connoneer will agro, but the Highbank Marksman will still not agro. This is still viable, as the Marksman are in rows along the walls. The mobs ability to be pick-pocketed resets about every seven minutes, so by running the full circle of walls, towers, and NPCs within the walls, everything should be reset when you are ready to start the cycle again.

The following macros will be really helpful. Depending on your play style and what area you are in, you may want to try a couple of them to see what works best for you:

This macro will target the closest NPC, pick its pockets, and clear your target. You just spam this will running through a crowd.

#showtooltip Pick Pocket
/console targetNearestDistance 5
/targetenemy [noharm][dead]
/cast Pick Pocket
This macro will target whatever NPC is under your mouse cursor. This is the one I prefer when running through Deepholm.

#showtooltip Pick Pocket
/cast [target=mouseover, exists] Pick Pocket; Pick Pocket

This macro is best used when mobs are spaced out a little bit and have the chance to agro you. (for example, if they are just standing there and not occupied by fighting another NPC)

#showtooltip Pick Pocket
#show Pick Pocket
/cast [target=mouseover, exists] Sap; Sap
/cast [target=mouseover, exists] Pick Pocket; Pick Pocket

Bind this to a button and click it once to pick the lock, and a second time to open the box and loot it.

/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/cast Pick Lock
/use Flame-Scarred Junkbox
/use Flame-Scarred Junkbox
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Give these locations a shot with your rogue and see if you can get these great Epic weapons!

One Comment to “Revisiting Flame-Scarred Junkboxes for fun and Epics!”

  • When I was trying to farm these there seemed to be a area in Vashj’ir with nagas that had a really high number of boxes PP’d there. Do you know about the area and if it was nerfed?
